Female hair transplant in Antalya: what works, and for whom
Hair loss in women is common, deeply personal and often handled badly. A hair transplant can be an excellent solution for some women, but only after the cause is understood. Here is an honest guide.
Why women lose hair
Female hair loss usually looks different from male pattern baldness. Rather than a receding hairline and bald crown, most women notice a widening parting, thinner hair on top or a ponytail that feels smaller than it used to. The causes are also more varied: female pattern hair loss, hormonal changes after pregnancy or during menopause, thyroid problems, iron deficiency, stress, certain medications and long-term tension from tight hairstyles, known as traction alopecia.
Some of these causes are temporary and treatable without surgery. That is why a good clinic will always ask about your medical history and often request blood tests for iron, thyroid function and hormones before recommending a transplant. A transplant cannot fix a cause that is still active.
Who is a good candidate?
A hair transplant tends to work best for women who have:
- A naturally high hairline or a high forehead they would like to lower.
- Traction alopecia at the temples or hairline from years of tight hairstyles.
- Localised thinning with a stable, dense donor area at the back of the head.
- Scars from surgery, accidents or burns where hair no longer grows.
- Thin or missing eyebrows (see our eyebrow transplant guide).
Women with diffuse thinning across the whole scalp, including the back of the head, are often not ideal candidates, because the donor area may be thinning as well. In that case medical treatment usually comes first, and an honest clinic will tell you so.
Which technique is used for women?
Most women prefer not to shave their head, which is why unshaven DHI is the most common choice. The grafts are implanted between existing hairs with a Choi pen, and only a small strip of the donor area at the back is trimmed, hidden under your remaining hair. For lowering a high hairline, single-hair grafts are placed with great care to create a soft, irregular edge that looks natural, including fine baby hairs at the front.
Sapphire FUE can also be used, especially when larger areas need to be covered and shaving a section is acceptable.

What to expect on the day
The day starts with a consultation, blood tests and the design of your new hairline or treatment area. The procedure is done under local anaesthesia and usually takes most of a day. Many women find unshaven DHI reassuring because they leave the clinic looking much as they arrived, with the treated area covered by their own hair.
Female patients often travel with a partner, friend or family member, and Antalya’s calm setting makes the days around the procedure feel comfortable and private.
Recovery and results
Small scabs disappear within seven to ten days, and most women return to work after about a week, often earlier with unshaven DHI. Some temporary shedding of transplanted hair, and sometimes of nearby existing hair, is common between weeks three and eight and regrows. New hair appears from three to four months, with a clear change at six to nine months and the final result at around twelve months.
Many doctors recommend continuing medical treatment, such as topical minoxidil, to protect your existing hair over the long term.
How much does a female hair transplant cost in Antalya?
Female hair transplants are usually performed with unshaven DHI, which is slower and therefore often at the upper end of the Antalya range of about €1,800 to €3,500, depending on the area and number of grafts. Packages normally include your hotel, transfers and aftercare. See our cost guide for details.
Frequently asked questions
Can women have a hair transplant?
Yes. It works especially well for a high hairline, traction alopecia, localised thinning and scars, provided the donor area is stable.
Do women have to shave their head?
Usually not. Unshaven DHI is the most common technique for women, with only a small hidden strip trimmed at the back.
Is a hair transplant suitable for diffuse thinning?
Often not as a first step. If the donor area is also thinning, medical treatment usually comes first.
Can a hair transplant lower my hairline?
Yes. Hairline lowering with grafts is a common reason women choose a transplant, with soft, natural-looking results.
Will anyone notice?
With unshaven DHI, the treated area is usually covered by your own hair from the start, so most people will not notice.
